Expansin-like proteins for bio-based materials engineering

Lignocellulose and chitin, the most abundant polysaccharide resources in the world, could be used to replace oil in production. Taru’s approach is to upgrade the intrinsic structure of these polysaccharides. Expansin-like proteins are fascinating since they seem to affect hydrogen bonds in the materials and thus change their structure without breaking them. This brings possibilities to modify these materials to new applications.
